Music Trends in 2019

Music Trends in 2019

Sorry its been awhile since we posted something on our DVT Entertainment Blog. We took a little much need breather to gear up for 2019. We wanted to put together a lot of information on music trends. below there are several links to great articles about Music Trends. Here are some of our insights for trends we see along with links to other articles about the futere trends in 2019.

Changing the Venue Door Deal Model:
This has been a topic since the dawn of the cover charge at venues. This was a struggle even for us at DVT, we have modeled ourselves that ARTISTS FIRST. It was always a struggle, the door would cover sound, production, staff and even some places took a percentage before the artist saw a dime. So, how do we change that model that is rampart across the country. We met with our friends at Broken Goblet Brewing to discuss this with their new 250+ Brewery/Venue set to open in May-ish. So we wanted to keep the venue a FREE COVER all the time, excluding National Shows. So we are agreed that a Tiered Guarantee for the artists was the way to go. The second part is pure genius that the BGB came up with for a bonus for the bands. The concept is to have a special beer brew for the bands to promote for the show, ex. Band IPA. The beer is priced at $6. BGB will give $3 of each beer sold back to the band for a bonus. So if 100 drafts were bought its an extra $300 on top of your guarantee. Also 100% artists merch sales goes to the artists.
We believe this going to be a game changer on various levels, but the most import thing is building your fanbase. So you get a free cover, top notch sound system/staff, BGB regulars, your fanbase, guarantee and bonus. Sounds like an Innovative new Way to Do Business!

Artists Working Cross Functionally:

Cross functional team is a group consisting of people from different functional areas of the music business - for example, music production, collaboration, merchandise, marketing, creative, and touring/booking. These can be working groups, where each member belongs to their functional team as well as the cross functional team, or they can be the primary structure of your goals of an artists.Cross functional teams will help artists, by bringing people together with different perspectives to make smarter, more sustainable decision making. Instead of competing for resources, cross functional teams collaborate to optimize use of time, money, and effort to improve the Artists to meet organizational goals.

In building a team you need to build a network of people that are excited to take your music to a new level from music, creative, shows and marketing to achieve success.  Some might be green in the music industry and some may have experience. It all boils down to working with creative excited people.

Artist Entrepreneurs:
Since the dawn of the musical artist, artists have branched out into movies, clothing, media companies, real estate, etc. Artists are entrepreneurs and your music is your business. To get started you need to define your mission/brand/identity of your music and yourself. Understand and know your audience. Understand basic marketing and sales. Surround yourself with good people, strong mentors, and individuals who are succeeding and want you to succeed too. This ties into the above topic of building a team and coming up with other avenues that represent you the artists and new ventures, if its a Beer, Wine, clothing line or some other product that fits your brand.
